Wonderful Happenings at Waratah PS!
Wonderful Writers
Students from Year 1 recently visited Mr Freeman with their amazing writing. They have been working hard to make their stories interesting and entertaining.
Year 6 Versus Staff Basketball
In their last few days at our Wonderful Waratah PS, Year 6 challenged the staff to a basketball match. It was hotly contested. The staff were the winners on the day.
Over recent weeks there have been several competitions in lots of different arenas and the Year 6 kids have come out overall winners. Congratulations Year 6.
Terrific Tables Winners
Year 3 have been working all year on learning their times tables. Last week they had their final competition rounds.
These students were victorious and have worked hard to succeed.
Fabulous Writing from Kindergarten
Recently kindergarten have been learning about using adjectives in their writing. Here is some interesting writing from KM.
Spelling Bee Awesomeness
Last Friday, Ryan from Year 6, did an amazing job representing Waratah PS at the State Spelling Bee in Sydney. He made it through to the third round, correctly spelling therapeutic and isthmus, but was unfortunately knocked out on hepatitis. Well done, Ryan!
Cricket Success
Waratah PS recently sent 4 fabulous students to the Zone Cricket Trials. They all tried their best and Darcy was selected to move onto the next selection round. Great job Darcy!
Kmart Wishing Tree Performance
The choir have again performed at the opening of the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal at Wararath Village. The sang three song beautifully and were commended for their performance and their wonderful Waratah respectful behaviour. The represetative from the Salvation Army informed us that the Wishing Tree is the largest ongoing donation project in Australia and New Zealand and it has been running since 1987. Our students were proud to take part.
State Athletics Representative
On the 23rd October, the fabulous Macey from Year 6, represented our school and region in Shot Put at the State Athletics Championships in Sydney. She palaced 35th in sthe state with a throw of 7.23m. What an amazing achievement Macey!
Canberra Momento
Our Stage 3 students recently received a special certificate as a memento to mark their visit to Parliament House during our Stage 3 Canberra Excursion in June 2025. The visit was a highlight of the trip, providing students with a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia’s democratic system and the role of government. We are incredibly proud of our students, who represented our school with maturity, curiosity, and respect. The educators who led our tours commended them for their excellent behaviour, thoughtful engagement, and insightful questions throughout the day.
Blue Buddies
This week was our first Kinder Orientation visit where our 2026 Kinder Students met their buddies. The buddies were very excited and did an amazing job!
Hands On Learning
4/5S have been revisiting fractions this week in maths lessons. They did lots of hands on learning, from cutting up fruit to sorting themselves onto a number line. Learning in this way is not only fun, but gives everyone the opportunity to justify their thinking and devlop their reasoning skills. Look at those smiles!
Friday Fun
On Friday 26th September, a staff versus stage 3 Dodgball Game took place for some end of term fun! The whole school was out showing their support and it was a fabulous event. Unfortunate;y the students went down 6 games to zero! Everyone played with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship.
Amazing Public Speaking Success
This week, one of our fabulous kinder students competed in the Hunter Inter School Public Speaking Competition at Hillsborough PS.
He won the event. Super effort!
Stage 1 Transport Excursion
Recently our stage one (Year 1 &2) classes journeyed around Newcastle on their log-awaited excursion. Trains, buses, ferries, lightrail and lots of walking. The day included a specially delivered lunch in the park at Stockton. A Great day was had by all!
Stage 2 Camp
Stage 2 had an amazing time at Pt Wolstoncroft camp just a few weeks ago. Kids were able to kayak, bushwalk, cook damper over a fire, learn archery and much more. Amazing fun, great food and an excellent location.
Spelling Bee
This term we had two students participating in the regional finals of the NSW Premier's Spelling Bee. Our Senior School Champion, Ryan has now qualified for state finals in Sydney next term. Waratah are very proud of his success!
